Wholly-owned subsidiaries means WIH can and will own businesses that are separate from WIH, bearing different names and management but still under the control of WIH. Also WIH can do business jointly with another company or a single wealthy individual(s). In this case WIH will function as a partner in that joint venture and if WIH owns up to and above 51% of the share capital of that venture, this new business will be called a subsidiary
of WIH. This is because WIH has a controlling majority shares. So a partnership can still be called a subsidiary. Also note that where WIH owns less than 50% of the share capital, this becomes an associate (affiliate
) company of WIH.
